Grant Will Assist With “Sobreviviendo El Cancer/Surviving Cancer”

Executive Director Dennece Knight announced the award of a grant to the University Medical Center Foundation in the amount of $5,000 from the Stern Foundation.  The funds will be allocated to “Sobreviviendo El Cancer/Surviving Cancer,” a program that assists individuals who are unable to work during chemotherapy/radiation because of side effects (fatigue, nausea, etc.).

“Many patients who qualify for Social Security Insurance and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families must often wait for up to 3-6 months before they can receive assistance,” explains Knight. “We’re grateful to the Stern Perpetual Medical and Scientific Research Fund for this grant, which will allow us to provide program eligibility screening, supportive counseling and financial assistance to cancer patients undergoing treatment at UMC El Paso.”
