6/09/2011 Junior League of El Paso, Inc. Gives $100,000 to Family Resource Center of El Paso Children's Hospital

Executive Director of University Medical Center Foundation, Dennece Knight, announced a $100,000 gift from the Junior League of El Paso, Inc. to benefit the Family Resource Center at El Paso Children’s Hospital.  The Center will be named “Junior League of El Paso, Inc. Family Resource Center” said Knight. “The Family Resource Center is a central hub in a Children’s Hospital.  It is the first place a parent goes after they have gotten a diagnosis about a condition they don’t quite understand.   They want to learn more.  They want to know everything about it.”

Family Resource Center’s will hold a library of materials, books, games and DVDs.  They also offer other vital support including information about local attractions and restaurants, directions and hours.  “It is the first place we go when we get there and the last place we stop when we leave,” said Kristin Cox, UMC Foundation Board Member and El Paso Children’s Hospital Board member.  Cox’s son Kyle travels to Cincinnati Children’s multiple times each year.

“The Junior League has selected this as a key project for their members.  The money is important but the time they dedicate is equally valuable.  Over the next year their volunteers will dedicate many hours coordinating with the Foundation and hospital officials in the selection and organization of materials to be held in the Family Resource Center.  We are very excited about this collaboration,” said Knight.
