6/23/2011 $1 Million Dollar Gift to Benefit El Paso Children's Hospital
University Medical Center Foundation received a $1 million gift to benefit the El Paso Children’s Hospital from the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Charitable Foundation of Midland, Texas. The million dollar gift is dedicated to benefit the General Pediatrics program at the children’s hospital including pediatric medical equipment. “The ninth floor of El Paso Children’s Hospital shall be named the James A. “Buddy” Davidson General Pediatrics Floor,” said Dennece Knight, Executive Director of University Medical Center Foundation. “The generosity of the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Foundation and the scope of their gift will propel the general pediatrics program forward to the benefit of many families in the future with sick and injured children,” said Children’s Hospital CEO Larry Duncan. “We are very grateful for their generosity.”
Born in 1926, James A. “Buddy” Davidson lost his father at the age of thirteen and was brought up by his mother who worked as a Registered Nurse. Growing up during the depression, Buddy developed an early appreciation for the importance of saving a portion of his earnings. A World War II veteran and the bearer of two law degrees, one in Business and another in Law, Mr. Davidson worked with various oil and gas companies until he started his own company in 1979. He exemplified a life-long work ethic and diligence with a dollar and was known for continuing to make contributions to charity, whether times were good or bad.
