Lexus "Makes A Difference"

Luxury Car Raffle to Benefit
University Medical Center and El Paso Children's

Hoy Fox Lexus joins University Medical Center Foundation's Volunteer Corps for a luxury car raffle just in time for the ultimate gift under the tree. The winning ticket will be drawn Wednesday, December 21st live on air during KVIA's 6 pm news. The $50 raffle tickets not only buy a chance to win a luxury Lexus CT200 four door hybrid sedan with GPS navigation, the charitable donation also supports a unique "Learning to Give" program for the 1000 member Volunteer Corps. In February, UMC Foundation members of Volunteer Corps, Teen Corps and Kid Corps will participate in a unique one day Volunteer Corps Forum to listen to presentations for requests for donations from representatives of departments of University Medical Center and El Paso Children's Hospital. Participating members will vote to give away the money they have raised from the raffle. "The vote of a Kid Corps member counts just as much as a Teen Corps or Adult Corps member," said UMC Volunteer Program Manager Victor Guerrero. "They will be presented with a variety of serious medical needs, crime victims, indigent cancer patients, trauma victims, medical scholarships, child life programs and more."

Comprised of adult volunteers as well as ambassadors from area schools, UMC Foundation Volunteer Corps members participate in a full day of CORE Skills Training in Communication, Consensus Building, Conflict Resolution and Compassion. Participants then put their newfound skills to work in signature projects like the Compassionate Care program (fulfilling weekly wish lists of necessities from trauma victims or those in need), or Project CARE (Community Access to Rehabilitation Equipment) where donated durable medical equipment is taken in, refurbished and redistributed to those in need, other Foundation fundraising events and the UMC Volunteer Corps "Be a Donor Congress."

“At some point, each one of us will encounter a bump in life. I don’t care if you are at a conference table, a kitchen table or a softball field, the skills that get you through the tough moments are communication, team building, knowing how to resolve a conflict and empathy for others. If our volunteers can go away with just a little of those coping skills we’ve all won” said UMC Foundation Executive Director Dennece Knight. “The “Be a donor Congress” is a perfect culmination that allows them to use their training,” she said laughing. “Trust me, consensus building and conflict resolution will be involved in the decisions of how much money will be given to whom with parity among all age groups voting.”  The majority of participating volunteers have never experienced being a donor.  “We think they will catch the excitement of being a donor, the thrill of knowing you made an impact and the joy that comes with doing a good deed. We’re excited for them.”
