Anthony - St. Raphael's

Carmen Cervantes had learned of the good works of Children’s Miracle Network through a friend whose daughter had a heart condition. As a school nurse at Saint Raphael, Carmen has always believed in practicing compassion for others. When she heard about Children’s Miracle Network’s Miracle Jean Day, it seemed like a perfect opportunity to get her students to practice it too. As a School Ambassador to University Medical Center Foundation’s Volunteer Kids Corps, St. Raphael’s student, Anthony Daniels, age 12, stays on the lookout for volunteer opportunities for his school mates.
Together, Carmen and Daniel mobilized their school with a whopping result of $2506.36 for critically ill children in El Paso. Students paid fifty cents to wear jeans instead of their school uniform. “They broke into their piggy banks to donate more,” Ms. Cervantes said commenting on the children’s eagerness to help. Carmen went classroom to classroom encouraging participation. Anthony encouraged his friends to get on board.
“It is a great example of the difference just one person can make.” said University Medical Center Foundation Executive Director. Dennece Knight. “We were so impressed with their efforts. It’s the most we’ve ever received from one school.” Anthony is now challenging his sister Celina and her school, to beat his donation next year.
