UMC Foundation Receives Grant To Fund Patient Navigator Program

After a cancer diagnosis patients have to adjust their priorities. They need to cope with reality and at the same time, they need to act fast. In most cases, a patient will not receive adequate cancer care because they don’t have the funds to start medical treatment and they don’t have someone who tells what the next step in their journey to recovery is.

University Medical Center of El Paso now offers a patient navigator for breast cancer patients. This person is trained to guide the patient, assists in filing out insurance paperwork, identify local resources and supports and effective communication with their physicians.

The patient navigator for breast cancer patients is funded through a generous grant from the national breast cancer foundation. In it’s first year, the patient navigator has helped over 130 patients to begin medical treatment for breast cancer.
