Dr. Veronica Greer Is Recipient of 2018 Dr. Allan Tyroch Award

Veronica Greer, M.D. and Chief of Staff at University Medical Center of El Paso has received the 2018 Alan Tyroch Award for Exceptional Service. Dr. Greer was presented with the honor at University Medical Center Foundation’s fundraiser “The Doctor is In” held last week. The Alan Tyroch Award commends a physician whose lifelong history of service, passion and leadership has had an impact on the transformation of University Medical Center.

Dr. Greer specializes in emergency medicine, serves as residency director and assistant professor with the Department of Emergency Medicine and the outgoing Chief of Staff at University Medical Center of El Paso. She has been with the hospital for 18 years.

“Raise the bar is the most common phrase you hear associated with her name,” said Dennece Knight, Executive Director of University Medical Center Foundation. “She has demonstrated an interest in Medical Education, quality of care and Patient Safety throughout her career.  Some of her initiatives placed UMC above the national average with patient safety and quality.”

Dr. Greer graduated from the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School at Houston with a Doctor of Medicine and the University of Texas El Paso with a Bachelor of Science in Micro-Biology. She did a residency in Family Medicine and worked in Fort Worth for almost 12 years. An El Pasoan, Dr. Greer was influenced by her father, a medic in the military and a cousin who in her words “happened to be the Surgeon General.” She returned to El Paso to do a residency at the TTUHSC El Paso Paul L. Foster School of Medicine with the Department of Emergency Medicine. A track and field athlete in high school, Dr. Greer held a discus record that took twenty years to beat.
