Free car seat safety checks are coming to El Paso during National Seat Check Saturday on September 26. Families can meet one on one with certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians to have their child’s car seat inspected, learn proper installation and receive hands-on guidance to help keep children safer on the road.
El Paso families are invited to take an important step toward keeping their youngest passengers safe during National Seat Check Saturday on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the El Paso Children’s Multispecialty Center, located at 5400 Alameda Ave.
This free community event gives parents and caregivers the opportunity to work one on one with certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs) to make sure their child’s car seat is installed and being used correctly.
During each car seat check, technicians will inspect the seat, identify potential safety concerns and demonstrate the proper way to install and secure the car seat. Families will also receive hands-on education to help them feel more confident using their child’s seat every day.
When technicians determine that a car seat needs to be replaced, eligible families will receive a new car seat at no cost, along with guidance on its proper installation and use.
The event is free and open to the public. Walk-ins are welcome between 9:00 and 11:00 AM, as space permits. To help reduce waiting times and secure a spot, families are encouraged to register in advance at umcfoundationelpaso.org.
Children receiving a car seat check must be present at the event. This allows technicians to verify that the seat, harness and positioning are appropriate for the individual child. Expectant mothers in their third trimester are also welcome to participate.
National Seat Check Saturday is organized locally by the El Paso Regional Car Seat Partners, a coalition of organizations working together to educate families about child passenger safety and reduce the risks associated with improperly installed or incorrectly used car seats.
Participating organizations include the University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso – El Paso Health Car Seat Safety Program, El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police Department, Texas Department of State Health Services Safe Riders Program, Texas Department of Transportation “Save a Life” Program, El Paso Health and El Paso County Constable, Precinct 6.
Through events like National Seat Check Saturday, these community partners help connect parents and caregivers with certified technicians, hands-on education and resources designed to keep children safer from birth through the booster seat years.
