Dr. Abigail Tarango Named 2025 Woman of Distinction by TAMACC

August 4, 2025

The Texas Association of Mexican American Chambers of Commerce (TAMACC) has announced its 2025 Women of Distinction Honorees, celebrating twelve Latina leaders from across the state who are driving change, elevating communities, and building a more inclusive Texas.

Among the distinguished honorees is Dr. Abigail Tarango, Executive Director of the University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso and the El Paso Children’s Hospital Foundation, and President of Fundación UMC de México. A proud El Paso native and Xicana scholar, Dr. Tarango has spent over two decades advocating for equity, education, and healthcare- particularly along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Known for her strategic leadership and deep cultural roots, Dr. Tarango has transformed how philanthropy supports healthcare in the region. Through her leadership, the two El Paso-based foundations have raised millions in support of medical care, community health initiatives, and pediatric research. Internationally, her work through Fundación UMC de México has provided access to critical orthopedic surgeries for underserved children.

“I am deeply honored to stand alongside these phenomenal Women of Distinction whose leadership and love for community uplift us all,” said Dr. Tarango. “TAMACC’s commitment to celebrating our collective strength and cultural pride is a reminder that when Texas women lead, systems transform and futures shift for the better.”
