The El Paso Regional Car Seat Partners hosted their second annual National Seat Check Saturday on September 26 at the El Paso Children’s Multispecialty Center, bringing local families together with certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians for free car seat checks.
Technicians worked one on one with parents and caregivers to inspect their car seats, identify potential safety concerns, and demonstrate how to install and secure each seat correctly. With children present, technicians could also check proper fit and harness positioning. Expectant mothers in their third trimester were welcome to participate and learn how to prepare a car seat for their baby’s arrival.
For families whose car seats needed to be replaced, eligible participants could receive a new seat at no cost and guidance on its proper use. The event gave caregivers an opportunity to ask questions and leave with practical knowledge they can use every time their children ride in a vehicle.
National Seat Check Saturday was organized by the El Paso Regional Car Seat Partners, a coalition of local agencies and organizations committed to “Elevating Safety from Birth to Boosters.” Through community education, car seat inspections, and access to certified technicians, the coalition works to give families the resources they need to help keep children safer on the road.
Participating organizations included the University Medical Center Foundation of El Paso’s El Paso Health Car Seat Safety Program, El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Police Department, Texas Department of State Health Services Safe Riders Program, Texas Department of Transportation “Save a Life” Program, El Paso Health, and El Paso County Constable, Precinct 6.
The El Paso Regional Car Seat Partners thank the families who attended and the technicians and partner organizations who helped make the second annual event possible.
