Medical Education

Fellowships, Scholarships and Support

As a teaching hospital, it is imperative to provide fellowships, scholarships and support to the trained physicians, medical researchers, and nurses of University Medical Center of El Paso.

In collaboration with UMC and the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center El Paso/Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, fellowship programs are available in divisions such as Internal and Emergency Medicine as well as residencies.

UMC's Nursing Workforce Development Program (NWDP) provides training for incumbent workers in order to ensure a highly qualified nursing workforce. Nurses who have a two-year Associate’s (ADN) degree receive the additional training and education to achieve a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. This applies to working ADNs and improves UMC’s nursing workforce by implementing the key recommendation of the Institute of Medicine’s Report on Future of Nursing to achieve a BSN workforce by 80% by 2020.
